“The establishment of the Confucius Institute marks an important step for UAI in strengthening academic, cultural, and industrial collaboration between Indonesia and China,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Asep Saefuddin, M.Sc., Rector of University Al-Azhar Indonesia.

Strategic Participation from China and Indonesia

The Chinese delegation, led by Mr. Zhao Pengfei, Chairman of the Guangdong Education Association of International Exchange, emphasized that the collaboration seeks to bridge universities and industries in developing future-ready human capital.

In Guangdong Province, there are approximately 20,000 to 30,000 industries, yet only about 25 have been fully supported through existing academic–industry partnerships. The delegation noted that this initiative aims to expand those collaborations substantially by providing scholarship opportunities and educational support for Indonesian universities to engage in joint programs and research.

Representing UAI, alongside the Rector, were Vice Rectors Ir. Ade Suryanti, M.M., IPU., and Dr. Faisal Hendra, Lc., M.A., together with Head of the International Affairs and Partnership Office, Dr. Mohamad Ghozali Moenawar, Lc., M.M., Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Lusi Lian Piantari, S.S., M.Hum., and Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Education, Dr. Drs. Fidesrinur, M.Pd.

During this first batch of the program, three UAI students successfully secured internship placements with Singapore-based companies:

• Sheila Zhafira Azzahra, a sixth-semester student of International Relations, served as a Sales and Business Development Intern at Quippy Singapore.
• Achmed Haikal Junior Zaman, an eighth-semester student of Informatics, undertook a UI/UX Internship at Attitux Singapore.
• Muhammad Adli Bashira, an eighth-semester student of Informatics, completed a Graphic Design Internship at ICON+ PTE LTD, Singapore.

Throughout their internships, the students were involved in various projects aligned with their academic backgrounds and professional aspirations. They gained practical experience in business communication, creative problem-solving, and the application of digital technologies in real-world settings. The remote format also allowed them to develop essential competencies in time management, cross-border teamwork, and intercultural communication, the skills that are highly relevant in today’s interconnected professional landscape.

Reflecting on her experience, Sheila Zhafira Azzahra shared:

“During my internship at Quippy, I gained valuable experience in the fields of edutech and business development. The supportive and collaborative work environment motivated me to keep learning and growing. I truly appreciated the opportunity to be directly involved in marketing activities and in communicating with potential clients. I am sincerely grateful to the entire Quippy team for their guidance and trust. I wish Quippy continued success in its journey to become the leading language learning platform for students around the world.”

Similarly, Achmed Haikal Junior Zaman reflected on his experience at Attitux Singapore:

“The Gateway Internship Program has been an incredibly valuable experience for me. It allowed me to gain first-hand exposure to the international work environment and sharpen my professional skills. The guidance I received from my mentors was instrumental in helping me grow and improve. Moreover, the program’s dynamic and supportive atmosphere made the learning journey even more meaningful. I am truly grateful to have been part of such an exceptional experience.”

The successful implementation of this internship program serves as a stepping stone toward stronger partnerships and broader access to global internship opportunities for UAI students. The two participants from Asia University, Japan, Akinaga Sato from the Department of International Relations and Noa Muraki from the Department of Multicultural Communication, joined the Japanese Language and Culture Department under the Faculty of Humanities at University Al-Azhar Indonesia for one-month academic and cultural immersion program.

Throughout the program, both students attended 30 sessions of Indonesian language classes, equivalent to 4 academic credits, designed to strengthen their communication skills and cross-cultural understanding. In addition, they participated in various cultural activities, including angklung performance workshops, museum visits, and excursions to the National Monument and Beautiful Indonesia Mini Park.

A farewell ceremony was held on September 6, 2025, attended by Dr. Lusi Lian Piantari, S.S., M.Hum., Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences; Vera Yulianti, S.S., M.A., Head of the Japanese Language and Culture Study Program; and representatives from the Office of International Affairs and Partnership, Muchammad Nasucha, S.S., M.Si., and Nova Andrianto Saputra, S.E., M.I.Kom.

The event was also joined by lecturers and students from the Japanese Language and Culture Department, who came together to celebrate the completion of the one-month exchange program and to bid farewell to the two participants from Asia University, Japan.

In her remarks, Dr. Lusi praised the students for their enthusiasm in learning and exploring Indonesian culture. She highlighted that international exchange programs play an important role in strengthening educational collaboration and fostering mutual understanding between Indonesia and Japan.

Meanwhile, Ms. Vera encouraged the students to continue developing their Indonesian language skills even after returning to Japan. She also hoped that they would share their positive experiences at UAI with their peers and academic community at Asia University, Japan.

Reflecting on their stay, Sato and Muraki expressed their appreciation for UAI’s warm hospitality and the opportunity to learn directly within an immersive environment.

“Practicing Indonesian in real conversations and learning about local culture firsthand was an unforgettable experience,” they shared.

The completion of this one-month exchange marks another milestone in the ongoing partnership between University Al-Azhar Indonesia and Asia University, Japan. A Continued Journey in Global Learning

Pancaran is the third UAI student to take part in a mobility program at Daugavpils University, following Ms. Amel, who joined through the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) scheme in 2023, and Muhammad Faathir Ar Rahman, who participated through the Erasmus+ framework in the 2024 Spring Semester.

Her participation marks another significant milestone in UAI’s ongoing commitment to nurturing globally minded students equipped for international collaboration and innovation.

The program will take place from August 29, 2025, to January 30, 2026, and is fully funded by the Latvian State Budget, amounting to EUR 5,985, which covers EUR 1,735 for travel expenses and EUR 4,250 for living expenses.

The six participating students — Barokah Musor, Faisol Doloh, Kareemah Mahileh, Manassanan Chuapudee, Nurhusna Madiyoh, and Nurunisah Sulong — spent two enriching months in Jakarta, engaging not only in academic activities but also in cultural and social experiences alongside UAI students.

Throughout their stay, the PSU students actively engaged in a range of academic activities under the Faculty of Psychology and Education, encompassing the Departments of Islamic Guidance and Counseling, Islamic Education, Psychology, and Early Childhood Teacher Education. They also participated in various student organization initiatives, which provided valuable opportunities to interact and build meaningful connections with UAI’s student community.

Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Education, Dr. Drs. Fidesrinur, M.Pd., also shared an overview of UAI’s academic atmosphere and upcoming collaborative plans, including academic participation and field visits to significant cultural and religious sites, such as the Istiqlal Mosque.

A Heartfelt Farewell and Continued Collaboration

Mrs. Nadya, who serves as a lecturer and Head of the Sub-Research Division at UAI, was selected as the university’s sole representative after a competitive internal selection process. “The sessions on micro-credentials and AI-based teaching were particularly inspiring and relevant to my work as a lecturer,” Nadya shared. “I look forward to implementing these insights and sharing them with my colleagues to enhance innovative teaching strategies at UAI.”

Beyond the classroom sessions, Nadya also participated in laboratory visits and collaborative research discussions, where she explored opportunities for joint projects and potential student participation in future international research initiatives.

During her visit, Mrs. Nadya also took part in discussions with Daugavpils University representatives to explore possibilities for future institutional cooperation, including joint research initiatives and exchange programs between the two universities.

The partnership between UAI and GXMZNU began in 2023, when both universities co-hosted an online speaking competition, which became the first bridge of academic and cultural exchange between the two institutions. This marked a significant step toward strengthening academic and cultural ties between the two institutions.

Wang Zhongwei, Vice Dean of the College of Humanities at Tarim University, introduced the university’s academic profile and its key role in promoting Mandarin language education and intercultural programs in Xinjiang.

As the highlight of the visit, UAI and Tarim University signed a Strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), represented by Dr. Zirmansyah and Wang Zhongwei. The agreement includes cooperation in student and faculty exchange, joint research, curriculum development, and cultural programs. Through this MoU, UAI and Tarim University agreed to strengthen cooperation in several areas, including: Joint academic programs and student/faculty exchange, Collaborative research in various strategic fields, Knowledge sharing and cross-cultural understanding, International programs in languages, communication, and technology. This collaboration is expected not only to enrich academic excellence but also to serve as a bridge for people-to-people relations between Indonesia and China through education and research.

After signing the MoU, UAI and Tarim University, held a discussion session to explore concrete steps for collaboration. This session was also joined by the Dean of the Faculty of Language and Culture, along with the Heads of the Arabic, English, and Mandarin Study Programs. This partnership marks an important step for Universitas Al-Azhar Indonesia and Tarim University in advancing collaboration through education, research, and cultural exchange. Melody Publishing Second Visit on the Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of Al-Azhar Foundation

The second Melody Publishing’s visit was filled with familiar faces as Prof. Yinghuei Chen, Ph.D, Melody’s Senior Consultant and a long-time friend of UAI, and Alice Huang, the Marketing Manager, represented Melody. They were received by Dra. Ai Kiki Rokibah, Head of Primary & Secondary Education Directorate of Al-Azhar Foundation, Drs. H. Muhammad Yasin, M.M, Head of Curriculum & Program Development of Al-Azhar Foundation, and Muchammad Nasucha, S.S., M.Si, the Head of International Cooperation Section.

Prof. Chen offered 4 collaboration opportunities that could be explored between respective institutions.

We understand Al Azhar Foundation’s reputation as an excellent institution on a national scale. With that in mind, we believe a student exchange opportunity ranging from Kindergarten all the way to High School with Taiwan schools for 2 weeks or even 1 month. We can also hold an English training hosted by Taiwan’s renowned English learning school for YPI’s students. We also have STEM books that can be circulated or used by YPI teachers to teach their students. Last but not least, YPI can become part of our franchise, where YPI teachers can teach after-class language school for students or professionals in Jakarta, while we provide you with the learning material.

Afterwards, Dra. Ai welcomed this initiative and wished to pursue this opportunity further, if Melody Publishing is able to provide them with an official proposal.

A Profound Meeting

The students visited the Office of International Affairs and Partnership of UAI, where they were received by the Head of the Office of International Affairs and Partnership of UAI, Dr. Mohamad Ghozali Moenawar, Lc., M.M., and the Head of the International Cooperation Section, Muchammad Nasucha, S.S., M.Si. In the discussion between the respective parties, the international students wished to continue their studies at UAI by taking a master’s degree in Islamic Education. Nevertheless, they were quite unsure about the modalities and how to fulfill the fiduciary requirements of the program.

Dr. Ghozali and Mr. Nasucha proposed that the students should apply for the King Salman Foundation.
