On May 14, 2014, Director of the Office of International Affairs (OIA), Al Azhar Indonesia University (UAI), Dr. Hidayat, YS, visited OIA of the University of Chicago, at 1414E 59th Street, Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Hidayat was greeted by Ms. Chidimma Jones Mubima, the Assistant Director of the OIA. The goals of this visit was to: 1) Introduce UAI; 2) Explore potential collaboration between UAI and the University of Chicago; and 3) Exchange ideas on managing the OIA.
University of Chicago consistently maintains its position as one of the top ten universities in the world, and possess the most Nobel Laureates in economics in the world. This University has about 15.000 students, of which 12.4% of it is Asian. With their motto “Your Home Away from Home”, the OIC of the University of Chicago shows a very active efforts in providing its international communities to enjoy the campus living, while studying there.
Some of the exemplary programs are: 1) Orientation and mentorship; 2) Outreach and staff training; 3) Facilitating student voice; 4) special events for all; 5) maintaining legal status; and 6) advising on next steps. These programs clearly indicate that this university welcomes international scholars as well as students worldwide.
